PETITION TO THE GOVERNOR AND ATTORNEY GENERAL
If you are concerned about the escalating violence and lawlessness of ICE, please consider helping the Democrats of Rim Country and other organizations around the state as we collect signatures on our petition to Governor Hobbs and Attorney General Mayes, asking that they charge and prosecute ICE agents who commit crimes against anyone living in our state.
This is a citizen's petition that anyone can circulate, and anyone can sign.
ICE agents have been the subject of increasing controversy due to their aggressive enforcement activities. In Arizona, alarming reports have surfaced detailing incidents of assault, kidnapping, and burglary committed by some ICE agents, under the guise of upholding immigration laws. There are also many reports of human rights abuses occurring in ICE facilities.
The Supremacy Clause protects only lawful actions. When ANY law enforcement officer commits a crime, it is a chargeable offense, no matter who he works for. Holding officers personally accountable for their conduct will send a powerful message; risk of arrest and personal legal bills will serve as a powerful deterrent to excessive use of force.
The role of immigration enforcement should never extend to wanton violations of civil liberties. Increasing reports of abuse call for an urgent need for accountability and justice. We urge the Governor of Arizona and the Attorney General to take decisive action by arresting and prosecuting those ICE agents found guilty of assault, kidnapping, and burglary. Such legal actions must include thorough investigations, transparent proceedings, and fair trials to restore faith in justice and deter any future misconduct.
